Resume: Lawrence Thompson
An artist, photographer, woodworker and amateur astronomer from an early age, a career in architecture was chosen later at 13 while working weekends framing a family-run project near hometown Covina. This decision followed in a long family tradition of engineers, carpenters, metal-workers, and tradesmen.
A resident of Santa Barbara , Lawrence Thompson graduated cum laude from the University of Southern California School of Architecture, and was licensed as an architect by the State of California after apprenticeships with the firms of Jones and Emmons of Los Angeles, William F. Cody of Palm Springs, and Kruger Bensen Ziemer of Santa Barbara. Design assistant to A. Quincy Jones and Chief designer for William F. Cody, both architects receiving rare national Fellowships in the A.I.A. for design.
In 1986, the firm converted to a corporation known today as Lawrence Thompson, Architects, Inc., and has gained recognition for excellence in design and professional practice. The firm is nationally accredited by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), and has licenses in California and Nevada.
Work has taken the firm to the Cote d’Azur, France, New England, Washington and Oregon, Arizona and New Mexico, and more recently, Las Vegas, Nevada. Extensive travel and photo reconnaissance in Europe, especially the Mediterranean, has provided in-depth understanding of these historic design themes in their cultural context. Founding President, Children’s Museum of Santa Barbara, 1994-2001, and a current Board member. Member Santa Barbara Sunrise Rotary 1994-2006, a member of Montecito Rotary 2006-2013 and now an ERotarian.
